Is Thing Like Cheap Car Insurance These Days?

There are plenty of advertisements out there proclaiming companies to be able to offer you cheap car insurance. But how many of them are actually real? Believe it or not, there are a few that can usually get you a significant savings over the major players.

I say usually because, like anything in life, there are no guarantees. However, many companies really can save you money, and that’s no small feat. The leader of this ‘cheap car insurance’ craze was Geico, not to be confused with gecko. Yes, I know, that little lizard is just too darned cute on the commercials to possibly save you any money. But the fact is, they say ‘one call could save you 15% or more’, and they aren’t kidding. This is not always the case for every customer, as they have their own set of criteria for what they consider a risky coverage, just like every other company out there. But the fact remains that they do save many people money, and it can’t hurt to get a quote.

Progressive insurance company also qualifies as cheap car insurance, as far as I’m concerned. I’ve carried them for years and only recently dropped them for something that I liked better. I didn’t have the best driving record, having been a little bit stupid in my younger years, but they managed to get me a price I could live with, and that was no small task. State Farm wanted me to pay $350 a month. Progressive was more than $100 a month cheaper. Not bad for a guy whose record was trash at the time.

Of course, once my driving record cleared up, I started thinking about switching companies. Get a fresh start with someone that would have no way to know my full history, as they can’t go back for than 3 – 5 years in most states. My record had been clean for at least that long, so I started looking around. Having heard the many commercials out there for esurance.com, and thinking how annoying those commercials were, I figured I’d go ahead and look into it. Maybe there’s a reason why I can’t drive 100 yards to the store without hearing one of their obnoxious commercials on the radio.

Well, by golly there is a reason! The reason is that they’re the easiest insurance company every! ‘Quote, buy, print’ they say in the ads. And you know what, I quoted, was shocked at how low it was, so I immediately bought and printed! I’m not among the ‘thousands of drivers a week who switch to esurance.’ I’m not sorry. I still hate their commercials, but they are by far the cheapest of the cheap car insurance companies that I’ve found, and I’m perfectly happy carrying cheap car insurance, especially with the ease of buying it and immediately printing my insurance card online from my home. You can’t beat that with a stick!
